Re: Recent Outbreak of Influenza A (H1N1)

Wednesday, Mar 09 - 2016

As you have likely heard already there is a late comer flu sweeping across Canada. Manitoba, Ontario, Alberta and Saskatchewan are particularly hard hit. This flu outbreak is expected to last for about four to six weeks. The flu is expected to affect people of all ages. Children under five and older patients are particularly vulnerable.

This particular strain of flu is the Influenza A(H1N1) virus that caused concern several years ago. Symptoms are of a typical flu involving the upper respiratory tract: cough cold, and runny nose along with fever and chills In more serious cases the lower respiratory system can become involved.

For my patients who were prescribed a flu kit last fall, they are now advised to restart the flu kit. Continue to take the kit weekly as prescribed for the next two months until May 1st.

Clients who are susceptible to upper respiratory infections, flu and colds, are welcomed to call for a program to boost their immune system during this time.
